There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.
You are a recognized expert in at least two security domains and use your leadership skills to manage a team that sets the direction and goals for solving Google-wide problems. You identify fundamental security problems at Google and drives major security improvements in Google infrastructure. At Google's scale, our security approach requires constant innovation to keep all our customers safe. In this role, you will utilize the latest AI advances to ensure cloud products meet the highest security standards, discover novel vulnerabilities across billions of lines of code, and automate fixing issues before they reach production. You will be transforming security into a seamless, automated part of every Google Cloud developer's workflow. In this role, you will lead Security and Software Engineers in collaboration with Cloud product teams to proactively identify and address software security flaws.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
- 8 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
- 8 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
- 5 years of experience in managing a team of engineers or security professionals.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience building, deploying, and using AI/ML-driven approaches for security workflows including vulnerability identification, risk evaluation, and scaled remediation.
- Experience in software security in Cloud environments, particularly in vulnerability assessment, risk evaluation, and scalable remediation of classes of vulnerabilities.
- Ability to manage a phased program rollout, transitioning operational ownership and scaling technical infrastructure with limited oversight.
- Ability to guide engineering roadmap for attack surface reduction and vulnerability management.
- Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of collaborating across organizational boundaries to drive alignment and technical execution.
Responsibilities
- Manage, hire and lead teams of Security and Software engineers.
- Drive comprehensive identification and elimination of vulnerabilities across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Products and shared infrastructure.
- Guide the strategic development and use of AI/ML-driven approaches to automate workloads across vulnerability identification, triage, mitigation and remediation.
- Maintain a high level of operational independence while collaborating closely teams across the globe to align strategy and technical direction.
